About Andharban Trek Location

The Andharban Trek location lies in the beautiful Sahyadri ranges near Tamhini Ghat in Maharashtra. Unlike many mountain treks that involve continuous climbing, Andharban is a unique descending forest trek.

The route begins on the plateau near Pimpri village and gradually descends through thick forests towards Bhira. Throughout the journey, trekkers enjoy panoramic valley views, flowing streams, moss-covered rocks, and countless seasonal waterfalls.

Because of its dense tree cover, the trail remains cool even during the monsoon, making it one of the most enjoyable jungle treks in Maharashtra.

Why is Andharban Called "The Dark Forest"?

The name Andharban comes from two Marathi words:

  • Andhar – Dark

  • Ban – Forest

The forest is so dense that sunlight struggles to pass through the thick canopy, creating a naturally shaded trail. This unique landscape gives trekkers the feeling of walking through a peaceful rainforest.

The combination of mist, greenery, waterfalls, and dense vegetation makes the Andharban Jungle Trek one of the most scenic trekking experiences in the Western Ghats.

Andharban Trek Pune Difficulty Level

The Andharban Trek Pune is considered a moderate-level trek.

Although the trail is mostly downhill, trekkers cover a long distance over uneven terrain that may include slippery rocks, forest paths, stream crossings, and muddy sections during the monsoon.
