Overview

Tikona Fort, also known as Vitandgad, is one of the most popular hill forts in the Maval region of the Sahyadris. Located near Lonavala and overlooking the beautiful Pawna Lake, this historic fort derives its name from its unique triangular shape. Standing proudly at approximately 3,500 feet above sea level, Tikona Fort has witnessed the rule of several dynasties and played an important role in controlling the surrounding Maval region during the Maratha era.

The trek to Tikona Fort is an exciting blend of history, adventure, and breathtaking natural beauty. The trail begins from Tikona Peth village and gradually ascends through scenic countryside, rocky sections, ancient pathways, and fortification remains. The massive entrance gate of the fort remains one of its most impressive architectural features and offers a glimpse into the fort's glorious past.

At the summit, trekkers are rewarded with panoramic views of Pawna Lake, Tung Fort, Lohagad Fort, Visapur Fort, and the surrounding valleys. The fort also houses ancient Satvahan-era caves, a water reservoir, and the revered Trimbakeshwar Mahadev Temple, making it an important historical and spiritual destination. During the monsoon season, the entire region transforms into a lush green paradise with mist-covered mountains and flowing waterfalls.

The trek is suitable for beginners with moderate fitness levels and serves as an excellent introduction to Sahyadri fort trekking. Whether you are a history enthusiast, nature lover, photographer, or adventure seeker, Tikona Fort offers a memorable trekking experience with stunning views and fascinating heritage.

Located just a few hours from Pune and Mumbai, Tikona Fort is a perfect one-day getaway that combines adventure, history, and the natural beauty of the Western Ghats.
